Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann admits he held talks with Manchester United about a summer move.

The Austria international was of interest to the Old Trafford giants as Erik ten Hag chased an alternative to David de Gea, a back-up option who could cover and compete with the Spanish international in equal measure.

Eventually, United brought in Newcastle stopper Martin Dubravka on a season-long loan deal.

Speaking to LAOLA1, Bachmann said: “There have been talks with Manchester United. That's no secret.

“Of course, it's great to be associated with such a club. It was also serious. There were negotiations between the clubs and of course between me and the clubs.

“In the end, however, I'm still a Watford player and I'm very happy about it. Because I play here regularly, bring in my performances and hopefully can play a role in the national team again."
