Watsons Malaysia chief operating officer Danny Hoh said the mangosteen was chosen as an inspiration because of its familiarity and cultural significance to Malaysians.

NATURALS BY WATSONS has launched a new mangosteen-inspired beauty range as part of its Merdeka month celebrations, drawing on one of Malaysia’s best-known tropical fruits.

The limited-edition range, which is made in Malaysia, includes shower gel, body lotion, body mist and travel-sized shower gel and body lotion.

Watsons Malaysia said the products are formulated with 97% natural-origin ingredients and contain mangosteen extract, which is known for its antioxidant properties.

The range is also designed to provide up to 72 hours of moisture, according to the company.

Watsons Malaysia chief operating officer Danny Hoh said the mangosteen was chosen as an inspiration because of its familiarity and cultural significance to Malaysians.

“Mangosteen is a beloved fruit in Malaysia, and we’re excited to incorporate this familiar local favourite into Naturals by Watsons’ Mangosteen product range,” he said.

Hoh said the range was intended to give the fruit a new expression through beauty and personal care products while retaining its connection to Malaysian culture.

The launch also features a collaboration with Malaysian illustrator Wonders of Eqa, who designed limited-edition packaging incorporating local cultural elements such as the traditional sarung and wau.

The launch was held at KL DEX and included a Durian and Mangosteen Eating Party, bringing together Malaysia’s commonly known “King of Fruits” and “Queen of Fruits”.

The collaboration with KL DEX will continue around Malaysia Day on Sept 16, with visitors able to sample the new products and learn more about their ingredients and claimed skincare benefits.

Visitors can also enjoy fresh mangosteen alongside KL DEX’s durian offerings as part of the collaboration.

Watsons said the range was aimed at combining local fruit culture with beauty and personal care, while offering consumers a Malaysian-inspired souvenir.

The Mangosteen range is available exclusively at Watsons Malaysia stores nationwide and online, with prices starting from RM23.90.

Customers who spend RM40 or more on products from the range can also qualify for a promotion featuring a chance to receive a mangosteen emoji plushie, subject to the applicable terms and availability.
