With everything on the rise, especially the prices of goods but not the wage, choosing the right and worthy place to eat can be tough. While mixed rice is often the best option for budget food, we can’t deny how inflation has led to its increased price.
Simply put, economy rice is NOT that economical anymore. A Malaysian, however, believes that customers shouldn’t make a big fuss over the increased price of mixed rice. He believes that the vendors had no choice but to increase the price of their dishes – because their suppliers do the same thing. In a post in the Facebook group 槟城吹水站, the man said that the vendors see no other options.
“Stop bullying us online!”
The man said that after the necessary deductions from the monthly sales, the vendor makes an average of RM2,000 every month, and they don’t live luxury lifestyles as many have perceived them to be.
“I don’t see you making a fuss when you’re paying RM40 for a plate of breakfast at the cafes!”
On average, a vendor sells a pack of mixed rice at RM6. Assuming the vendor sells 60 packs per day, that’ll get him RM10,800 per month. It’s no doubt a big figure, but after taking the capital and other deductions into account, the man said a vendor won’t have much left.
“With all the increased prices, do you expect me to beat up the suppliers?”
He also mentioned the rental fee which is not cheap, and urged others to stop blaming the vendors when they have no choice but to increase the price.
“When the bank increased the interest rates of your loan, I don’t see you making a noise too!”
The prices of raw materials are still seeing an increase, and there is definitely no sign of improvement for inflation anytime soon. To those who always have mixed rice for lunch, are you still happy with the prices?
