Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, better known as Mat Sabu, has described the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election (PRN) as one of the most politically complicated contests, with parties finding themselves competing against former allies while navigating shifting political relationships.

“We know that in this election, we're fighting against friends. That's the challenge,” he said.

He added that the political landscape has become increasingly complex because former allies now have ties with opposing political blocs.

“We're competing against friends, and those friends are now aligned with our political opponents. It makes this a very complicated election.”

Mat Sabu Confident Negeri Sembilan Voters Know Their Choice

Despite the changing political alliances, Mat Sabu expressed confidence that voters in Negeri Sembilan would not be confused when casting their ballots on August 1.

According to him, the state's electorate understands the political situation and will continue supporting Pakatan Harapan (PH).

“But the people of Negeri Sembilan are not confused. They know they will choose Pakatan Harapan on August 1.”

Praises Negeri Sembilan Government's Administration

Mat Sabu also praised the Negeri Sembilan state administration, describing it as stable, effective, and free from major governance controversies.

He said the government has managed the state without excessive arrogance, widespread oppression, or serious allegations of abuse of power.

“The administration in Negeri Sembilan has been running smoothly. There has been no excessive arrogance, and we have not heard of oppression against any particular group.”

He added that the government's performance has earned the trust and acceptance of the people.

Amanah to Continue Promoting Inclusive Islam

During his remarks, Mat Sabu reiterated Amanah's commitment to promoting the concept of Islam Rahmatan Lil Alamin—an inclusive interpretation of Islam that emphasizes compassion and benefits for all communities.

He stressed that Amanah would not resort to racial politics, even if such issues continue to dominate political campaigns.

“We do not want to play the race card, even when it is repeatedly raised by others. We remain committed to fastabiqul khairat—competing to do good.”

Political Stakes Rise Ahead of August 1 Poll

The Negeri Sembilan state election is expected to be closely watched as political parties navigate new alliances and changing rivalries following recent shifts in Malaysia's political landscape.

While Mat Sabu acknowledged the campaign is more challenging than previous elections, he remains optimistic that Pakatan Harapan's record in governing Negeri Sembilan will resonate with voters when they head to the polls on August 1.

During his speech, Mohamad also reflected on his time as a political detainee, recalling that he was placed under restricted residence in Kuala Pilah from 1984 to 1986. He said returning to the town always stirs deep emotions because he was not allowed to return home even for a single day during the two-year period.

"Whenever I come to Kuala Pilah, it brings back many emotions. Although I was under restricted residence here, I wasn't allowed to go home even once," he said.

Speaking in a video shared on Facebook on Sunday, Mat Sabu said the election presents an unusual situation where political rivals are no longer clearly defined.
