We’re spotting issues, taking steps to improve Selangor FC: S’gor prince

KUALA LUMPUR – Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has expressed his disappointment with the current situation of Selangor FC and several incidents involving the Red Giants.

Tengku Amir Shah, who is also the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) president, said many had made inaccurate assumptions and allegations regarding his involvement in the management of Selangor FC.

The prince stressed that not everything he does with Selangor should be shown on social media sites.

“For everyone’s knowledge, every important technical and management decision of the club is based on the direction set by me and based on my approval.

“These decisions are made based on my observation and also through a series of detailed discussions with the sports director, board members and relevant committees,” he said in a statement today.

Tengku Amir said he was aware that the team’s recent performance was not up to expectations, but assured that the management team had identified the weaknesses that need to be improved.

“I, together with the management team, have started tackling these issues and began working for next season which will be followed by several new technical appointments including sports director, technical director, coaching department as well as other steps that need to be taken to strengthen Selangor FC’s main team,” he said.

He also urged all Selangor supporters to remain united and not easily swayed from standing together due to the influence of unfounded and divisive external elements.

“I also wish to emphasise and give an assurance that there have never been any parasites in my management. This is actually the time when we need positive, constructive and undivided support from all so that we can together help our beloved team rise again,” he added.

Meanwhile, Tengku Amir thanked former FAS vice-president and Selangor FC Board member Izhar Moslim for all his contributions and sacrifices during his time with Selangor following his resignation on July 7.

Following Selangor’s poor run of results, the Red Giants are now ninth in the Super League standings after collecting 16 points from 15 matches, besides having crashed out of the FA Cup after losing to Terengganu FC in the semi-final.

Selangor have now gone six seasons without any titles after they last enjoyed success in 2015 when they won the Malaysia Cup. – Bernama, August 30, 2022
