Guwahati (Assam) [India], June 29 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday reaffirmed that the people of Assam will never stand alone in the face of adversity. Under the leadership of the Union and Assam Governments, every possible measure is being undertaken to ensure the safety, relief, and rehabilitation of those affected by the devastating floods in Dhemaji district.
According to an official statement released by the party, the unprecedented floods, triggered by incessant rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh and the heavy inflow of water from upstream regions, have severely affected vast areas under the Jonai, Sissiborgaon, Dhemaji, and Gogamukh Revenue Circles. The situation has become particularly critical in Simenmukh, Anand Nagar, Silapathar, Jonai, and several adjoining areas within the Jonai Legislative Assembly Constituency.
In a press statement issued from the BJP Assam Pradesh Headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, State Media Panellist Priyanka Tamuli stated, "Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the people of Assam can remain assured that they will never be abandoned in this hour of distress. The BJP Government has always stood with the people, continues to do so, and will steadfastly remain by their side in the days ahead."
Demonstrating the Union Government's unwavering commitment towards Assam, Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally reviewed the flood situation over the telephone and assured the State Government of the Centre's complete support and every possible assistance.
This unequivocally reflects the Government of India's deep concern, sensitivity, and unwavering commitment towards the welfare of the people of Assam during this humanitarian crisis. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been continuously monitoring the evolving situation and has directed all concerned departments to intensify rescue, relief, and rehabilitation operations without delay.
Acting upon the Chief Minister's instructions, Assam Cabinet Ministers Keshab Mahanta and Sushanta Borgohain immediately visited the flood-ravaged areas of Dhemaji district. During their visit, Keshab Mahanta assured the affected families that those whose houses had been completely destroyed by the floods would receive financial assistance of Rs 1.20 lakh each. He further stated that compensation would also be extended to families who had suffered the loss of livestock, in accordance with the Government's prescribed norms.
Additionally, Member of Parliament from Lakhimpur Parliamentary Constituency Pradan Baruah, Jonai MLA Bhuban Pegu, Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan, and Sissiborgaon MLA Jibon Gogoi also visited the flood-affected regions to assess the ground situation and interact with the affected residents.
The Ministers and elected representatives inspected severely impacted locations, including Simenmukh and Anand Nagar, reviewed the extent of flooding, riverbank erosion, and the functioning of relief camps, while personally interacting with displaced families to understand their immediate concerns.
Comprehensive directions have been issued to the concerned departments to ensure the uninterrupted availability of food supplies, safe drinking water, medical assistance, and all other essential services.
Rescue operations are being carried out at full scale with the coordinated efforts of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Simultaneously, the district administration has further intensified the operation of relief camps, distribution of relief materials, and rehabilitation measures to provide timely assistance to every affected family.
Reiterating the BJP's unwavering commitment during this challenging period, State Media Panellist Priyanka Tamuli emphasised that the safety, dignity, and welfare of the people of Assam remain the Government's foremost priority.
