On Nov 19 2022, our 15th general election (GE15) concluded with no decisive winner. No single coalition had won enough seats to form the government. Guided by the wisdom of our king, an inclusive unity government was eventually formed under the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on 24 November 2022. Our elected candidates were advised to put the nation’s interest first in this unity government.
We have seen a number of MPs working very hard to get our nation back on track after the onslaught of Covid 19 and the huge burden caused by the 1MDB and various financial scandals. Yet, there are a number who are just incompetent and complacent still sitting in their positions of authority.
Then, there are a number who are consistently stirring up strife and confusion, trying to gain brownie points through all means. From their actions and antics, I come to the conclusion that they simply do not care about this nation. Their hearts are void of genuine love or concern for Malaysia. They care more for themselves.
Genuine love causes one to be honest and accountable to God (who gave you the honour and responsibility of serving), the rakyat (who work hard to pay the salaries of our civil servants and members of parliament) as well as the king, the sovereign authority in Malaysia. May all our appointed leaders remember the wise advice of our king and why they are appointed to the various places of authority.
We are all living in tough times. We are distracted by many issues. No one likes the soaring cost of living or threats to our safety as we move about. We want stability, peace and progress. I am confident that we, Malaysians are willing to work very hard to not only get our country out of the present mess but also to shine as a beacon of hope in Asean.
Malaysia is having a unity government for the first time in her history. It is not an easy thing for both the government as well as those in the opposition bench. In the past few months, much time has been wasted in bickering over many issues rather than solving problems. Much resources have been wasted because of non-crucial issues. Let us get back to the fundamentals of rebuilding our nation and not be distracted. So, can I suggest that each time any leader questions regarding a problem, do propose a solution too. In that way, we can have a strong government as well as a strong opposition. Let us not destroy this beautiful nation due to our own selfishness or greed.
DAP veteran Mr Lim Kit Siang recently asked, “Why can’t Malaysia be a model country for the world for inter-ethnic, inter-religious, inter-cultural and inter-civilisational understanding, tolerance and harmony or in Bapa Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman’s words, ‘a beacon of light in a difficult and distracted world’?” I believe we can, if we are honest and united.
We want our unity government to succeed. Therefore, may each of us put our national interests first and uphold the original principles and policies of nation building as stated in our Constitution and Rukun Negara.
God bless Malaysia!
