We were ready to charge Daim, but delayed as he was hospitalised - MACC

THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today said it had been given the green light to charge Tun Daim Zainuddin, but could not proceed as he was hospitalised.

Its chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said MACC had wanted to bring the 84-year-old former finance minister's case to court since last week following consent from the Attorney General’s Chambers.

According to reports in The Star, Azam said his officers had communicated with Daim's lawyers soon after getting the go-ahead to charge him.

"However, we were informed at the last minute that he was hospitalised," said Azam.

However, he did not state the charges against Daim.

He also said that MACC had not received any clear explanation as to why Daim was hospitalised and what his health issues were.

"Eventually we will bring him to court," he said. - The Vibes, January 24, 2024
