As of 4 October, 23 Malaysian activists have been illegally detained by Israeli forces while en route to the Gaza coastline to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians.
Last night, the Malaysian government assured that the detained citizens will be extracted from Ashdod, Israel, before Monday (6 October). Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also stated that negotiations to bring the activists home safely have shown positive progress.
With the fate of the detained activists still uncertain, one of them shared a video prior to his capture, hinting at what might unfold if they were detained.
“We will not touch the food aid meant for the Palestinians.”
In an Instagram clip shared by @cintasalammalaysia, Ahmad Musa Al-Nuwayri Kamaruzaman, one of the detained activists, emphasised that even if they were captured, the aid meant for Palestinians would remain untouched.
“We foresaw what was going to happen, and we’re ready for it. For now, all we ask is for you to pray for us. May Allah take away our hunger.”
Ahmad Musa also urged Malaysians to continue raising awareness despite their detention.
“Don’t stop talking about Gaza and Palestine just because we’re detained. They are under attack, and they need our help.”
According to a report by Malaysia Gazette, the Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel (ADALH) stated that the detained activists were forced to kneel before Israeli soldiers with their hands zip-tied after chanting “Free Palestine!” They were also denied access to food, water, and legal representation.
