PARLIAMENTARIANS in Malaysia today turned their focus to concerns over weak telecommunications coverage, particularly in rural areas, with questions raised about the enforcement measures against service providers failing to meet coverage standards.
According to the Order Paper published on the Parliament’s official portal, the matter was raised by Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan (PN–Permatang Pauh), who questioned the Minister of Communications on monitoring mechanisms and penalties for non-compliant telco companies.
Another issue that drew attention was from Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad (BN–Simpang Renggam), who queried the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation regarding Malaysia’s strategy to position the ASEAN Energy Forum 2025 as a central platform for attracting high-impact green investments and reinforcing the country’s role as a regional clean energy hub.
Meanwhile, Chow Kon Yeow (PH–Batu Kawan) sought clarification from the Minister of Finance on whether the Federal Government intends to share a portion of national tax revenue with states, to support social and welfare programmes at the local level.
Following the oral question session, the Dewan Rakyat proceeded with the first reading of the Gig Workers’ Bill 2025, presented by the Minister of Human Resources. The bill aims to provide regulatory protections for individuals working in the growing gig economy.
Parliament then moved on to the second reading of several key bills, including the Legal Aid and Public Defence Bill 2025 and the Atomic Energy Licensing (Amendment) Bill 2025.
