The pursuit continues for a catering business proprietor suspected of defrauding a couple on their wedding day in Jempol, Negri Sembilan. They failed to make an appearance as agreed, leaving the newlyweds in a chaotic situation. This incident, which occurred last Monday, prompted the Jempol District Police Chief Superintendent Hoo Chang Hok to confirm an ongoing investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
Chief Superintendent Hoo Chang Hok assured that efforts to locate the individual involved are ongoing and promised further updates on the case shortly. The unfortunate turn of events unfolded when the hired catering company ghosted the family, leading to a considerable financial loss for the bride's brother, Burhanuddin Rabbani Abdul Shukor, amounting to more than RM13,000.
The dealings between the 26-year-old bride and the suspect solely occurred online, with no physical interaction before the wedding. The entire episode emerged after the victim engaged a wedding planner from Shah Alam, Selangor, back on April 3.
Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim clarified that their department hasn't initiated an investigation into the company in question. The entire focus regarding the fraud case lies within the jurisdiction of the Jempol District Police Headquarters.
At the very last minute, he said the family divided into several groups to find table sets, chairs, large pots, and items for cooking the wedding dishes.
"Fortunately, everything went smoothly today, despite having only one dish. Some generous individuals contributed by sponsoring apam balik, popcorn, and pastries.
The distress caused by the absence of the catering company highlights the vulnerability of online transactions, emphasizing the importance of due diligence, especially when dealing with significant events like weddings. The ongoing police pursuit signals a dedication to addressing such fraudulent activities and providing justice to the affected parties. This incident underscores the necessity of stringent measures to prevent and address online scams that can significantly impact individuals and families on important occasions.https://www.nst.com.my/amp/news/crime-courts/2023/12/995045/police-tracking-down-no-show-wedding-caterer
