Weeklong PDEA raids net P78M illegal drugs, 85 suspects

AUTHORITIES confiscated P77.78 million worth of illegal drugs and arrested 85 suspects in nationwide operations conducted from May 14 to 21, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said on Sunday.

PDEA Director General Isagani Nerez said the agency carried out 78 operations across the country during the period.

“This week’s accomplishment report is a testament to the unwavering commitment, dedication and bravery of our operatives on the ground,” Nerez said in a statement.

“From intercepting illegal drug shipments at the airport to dismantling drug dens and eradicating marijuana plantations in remote areas, we are proving that no corner of the country is beyond the reach of law enforcement. We will continue to intensify our antidrug operations until every community is freed from the threat of illegal drugs.”

Seized during the operations were 9,596.85 grams of shabu, 12,257.32 grams of dried marijuana leaves, 41,520 fully grown marijuana plants and 12,120 marijuana seedlings believed to be intended for distribution to multiple drug networks nationwide.

Of those arrested, 58 were identified as drug pushers, 11 as possessors and five as alleged drug den operators.

All suspects involved in illegal drug activities will face charges under Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

PDEA said the confiscated items were placed in government custody for forensic examination and presented as evidence in court proceedings.
