Kota Kinabalu: The Defence Ministry (Mindef) has introduced initiatives under the Kem Santuni Madani and Sekolah Angkat Madani programmes to strengthen the welfare of Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) personnel.
Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Ashraf Md Radzi said with support from LTAT and 14 of its group companies, the programmes now cover 38 schools in ATM camps nationwide with a total allocation of RM950,000.
He said the focus includes RM150,000 for facility upgrades and financial aid to 30 families under Kem Santuni Madani, RM50,000 for education empowerment under Sekolah Angkat Madani, as well as financial literacy and health initiatives.
“These initiatives reflect the true meaning of Madani aspirations — caring for the people, enhancing welfare and strengthening the community. ATM personnel and their families are the backbone of national security, and it is our duty to ensure their wellbeing is protected and celebrated,” he said during a working visit with Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin to the 5th Division Headquarters, Lok Kawi Camp, recently.
Ashraf said LTAT also channelled more than RM150,000 to upgrade As-Salam Mosque at Lok Kawi Camp, with contributions from its group company UAC Berhad, while Yayasan LTAT provided RM15,000 in direct aid to 30 underprivileged or critically ill ATM families.
The programme also featured the symbolic handing over of Wakaf Al-Quran, mock cheques worth RM50,000 to SK Kem Lok Kawi and SK Kem Tentera Sandakan, as well as free health checks by Pharmaniaga Berhad through its Skuad Operasi Sihat (SOS).
Lok Kawi is among five camps selected under Kem Santuni Madani, with RM500,000 allocated nationwide to benefit more than 5,900 ATM families.
Ashraf also conveyed LTAT’s solidarity with the people of Sabah affected by heavy rain and floods.
“We stand firmly with the people of Sabah in these challenging times. LTAT prays for their safety and peace, and we will continue to play a vital role in supporting ATM families and affected communities. Their resilience inspires us to keep contributing and ensure no one is left behind,” he said.
Also present were Eastern Field Army Commander Lt General Datuk Mohd Sofi Md Lepi, 5th Division Commander Datuk Noorrul Azril Ariffin and LTAT Foundation Chief Executive Datuk Mohd Nizar Sudin.
