I can still remember in 2005, psychologist Sonja Lyubomirsky and her colleagues published a landmark study in Review of General Psychology, revealing that happiness is influenced by three factors: 50% by genetics, 10% by circumstances (like wealth or health) & 40% by intentional activities and choices. As Lyubomirsky herself put it, “Happiness is not something you postpone to the future, it's something you design through your action today.” This candid perspective shifts wealth from a passive asset to an active tool, one that thrives on deliberate decisions aligned with what truly matters in everyday life.
Based on the 40% of happiness we control, my wife Zarina, and I decided from the choices in three key areas: relationships, purpose, and experiences in determining our choice to purchase a property at Aura Residence Putrajaya. Normally, we would meet at Zara Bistro for ‘teh tarik’ whilst I checked through the papers prior to signing it. However, this Ramadan we decided to perform the process whilst standing up near the guard house. Officer Bola suggested me to sign it in his office.
