West Ham assistant coach Billy McKinlay was happy with Lucas Paqueta's hit-out in their preseason defeat at Rennes.
The Hammers lost 3-1 on Saturday, with Tomas Soucek scoring the Irons' goal.
McKinlay told whufc.com: "It was good to see Lucas Paquet come in and get his first minutes of pre-season under his belt.
"That's his first minutes and he's played nearly 70 minutes for us. Okay he was tiring towards the end but he needed it. It was great to get him back and to see him out there on the pitch.
"We've been pretty fragmented with pre-season this year.
"The international boys came back while we were in Australia, which we knew was going to be the case, but this is the first week that we've had everybody back, working together and preparing.
"It's been slightly different, with different stages of fitness among the boys, so it was good to get this week under our belt. It's been a good week, a hard week, but we loaded it on purpose so the boys would work really hard. This game will be a really good work-out for them and we'll be ready to go at it again on Monday."
