West Ham boss David Moyes insists defeat at home to Newcastle was an unfair scoreline.

The Irons collapsed to lose 5-1 on the night at London stadium.

Moyes later said: "I'm not sure the score is what it should have been, it was down to individual big mistakes. We had done a lot of things which warranted goals before half-time, could have scored but we didn't.

"Overall there were things in the game I was pleased with, we had more attempts than the Southampton game but didn't defend well at all.

"The idea was to make sure we put them under pressure, not us. It is great playing short, but got to play it well. When you go 3-1 down, we have to open up, make changes, and the consequence can be that you lose more goals."

On the home fans leaving early, he added: "I might have walked out as well, I know how it works. But when it's bad that's when you stand up to be a true supporter, we've had good times getting into Europe, now we're having bad times. I've got no qualms them leaving with a result like that."

Asked if he had the support of the board, Moyes also said: "I might have walked out as well, I know how it works. But when it's bad that's when you stand up to be a true supporter, we've had good times getting into Europe, now we're having bad times. I've got no qualms them leaving with a result like that."
