West Ham United boss David Moyes heaped praise on Declan Rice.
The midfielder has not been at his very best at the start of this season.
Rice has commented on feeling overplayed over the past 12-18 months, but insisted that he still gives his all in every match.
After their narrow loss to Liverpool at Anfield, Moyes took time to praise Rice's contribution.
He told reporters: “He was the best player on the pitch by a mile tonight. He's a top player, could play for any club he's that good. He was back to his best tonight.
“For long periods he had fantastic parts of play, how he took the ball and drove past people with the ball. I thought he was the best player on the pitch tonight."
