Hammers boss David Moyes is a fan of the England defender and wants to bring him to London.
United have made Maguire available, but their 50m valuation is deemed too rich by Moyes and West Ham.
The Irons are set to become flush with funds as they sell Declan Rice to Arsenal for 105m.
However, the Independent says they want United to drop their price for Maguire before coming to the negotiating table.
