Westminster Bridge incident as five police officers are injured in boat crash

  • A police boat from the Metropolitan Police's Marine Policing Unit, carrying armed officers, collided with Westminster Bridge in central London on Friday afternoon.
  • The incident, which occurred around 3.40pm, resulted in five police officers sustaining injuries, with several initially entering the water before being recovered and receiving treatment.
  • Emergency services, including police, fire crews and ambulances, rapidly responded to the scene, supported by a police helicopter and an air ambulance circling overhead.
  • The Metropolitan Police confirmed that no members of the public were involved or injured in the collision, and stated that the circumstances of the incident would be thoroughly reviewed.
  • As a result, a section of Westminster Bridge was cordoned off, traffic was brought to a standstill, and entrances three and four to Westminster Underground station were temporarily shut.
