What are ‘nudify’ apps? Meta adverts for deepfake AI tools are banned

  • The Advertising Standards Authority has banned a series of adverts for "nudify" AI apps featured on Meta platforms due to sex abuse concerns.
  • The watchdog stated the adverts condoned the creation of non-consensual sexually explicit deepfakes and objectified women, including depicting a person appearing under 18 in a sexualised manner.
  • This marks the first time the regulator has banned adverts for AI nudification apps on social media following detection by its automated monitoring system.
  • Meta confirmed it removed more than 344,000 ads attempting to promote nudify apps between November 2025 and January 2026, stating such promotions violate its policies.
  • Campaigners from the End Violence Against Women Coalition warned that these apps monetise abuse and normalise real-world violence against women and girls.
