- A new vaping duty of £2.20 per 10ml of liquid has come into force in the UK to help curb youth vaping and combat illegal trade.
- The tax applies to manufacturers, importers and HMRC-approved operators, who will decide whether to pass the costs on to retailers and consumers.
- A six-month grace period has been introduced before all vaping products sold in the UK require a valid vaping duty stamp from 1 April.
- Tobacco duty has also been raised by £2.20 per 100 cigarettes or 50 grams of tobacco to maintain the financial incentive for smokers to switch.
- Industry figures warned the tax increase could backfire by driving adults back to smoking, despite government support for the measure.
