What if failure doesn’t exist?

What if failure doesn’t exist? Well, that’s exactly what I heard as I was watching an interview from an athlete which I briefly share in this video. When I first heard it from the athlete, I said to myself what a wise answer that is.

Often people think about failing and sometimes too much of it can lead to failure. What I observed from the interview is that, high performing athletes or even leaders don’t think about failing that much because they are preparing for success.

Failure Often Begins in the Mind

Often when you prepare and plan for success, the chances of you succeeding is much higher compared with someone thinking about “what if I fail?” before starting. Failure often starts in the mind before it is seen externally on the outside.

When you ask this question “what if I fail?” you are already planting doubt in your mind towards your ability in terms of achieving success. The small doubt, creeps into your mind and takes a lot of space by removing confidence from you.

Failure is also mentally rehearsed and when the mind is so used to thinking, imagining, feeling and so on, what naturally influences the action on the outside is what has been prepared mentally on the inside. So we need to change the thought pattern to get better results.

A Better Approach

Therefore it is important to be aware of how you are thinking. Are you thinking in terms of success or failing. What are the things that you could be doing to help you to think in terms of success?

  1. Prepare really well.
  2. Treat failure as feedback
  3. Believe in yourself
  4. Think positively
