- Blood tests revealed that almost 70 per cent of 49 tested residents in Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire, have high levels of the banned cancer-causing chemical PFOA.
- The chemical was used between the 1950s and 2012 at the nearby Hillhouse manufacturing site, currently operated by AGC Chemicals Europe and formerly by ICI.
- Law firm Leigh Day and Manchester Metropolitan University experts found 69 per cent of tested residents were in the high-risk category, with none in the low-risk group.
- Wyre Council has closed local allotments, and the Food Standards Agency advised residents within 1km to avoid eating home-produced eggs and to wash home-grown produce.
- AGC Chemicals Europe highlighted government advice that blood tests do not predict future health problems, while confirming manufacturing at the site will end this year.
