2 state assemblymen and a businessperson – who wanted to be placed as a whistleblower under the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010 pleaded not guilty to corruption charges involving bribes allegedly linked to mineral prospecting licences in a state in East Malaysia.
What is his endgame?
Until now, this was never revealed nor exposed publicly.
Was he doing a documentary following what Global Witness, an international NGO that investigates environmental and human rights abuses did in 2013 in Sarawak?
If it is the intention of self proclaimed’ whistleblower to expose wrongful acts, including corruption, law breaking, and bring wrong-doers to justice, the act would be commendable, including hiding the camera to bring out the truth.
All the videos that were released via a news portal appears to be filmed surreptitiously by luring participants to a discussion under the pretext of doing business deals whereas the real intention of recording the discussions appears to seek a confirmation on video that a corrupt act is being committed.
The secret recording appears to have unfairly deceived the interviewees but also acted in the name of transparency with the intent to cheat the viewers as well.
Was the purpose of all the videos political in view that a state election needs to be held by the end of 2025?
It is not difficult to question the timing of the release of these series of videos to the public through e-media with the elections in the state just round the corner.
After he was charged, the “self proclaimed’ whistleblower now is saying he has more evidence that many are not expecting.
It is equally not surprising to deduce that more evidence will continue to be release nearer the elections in the state.
The allegations are indeed very serious in every aspect so much so that it warrants serious investigation as it may impact the political outcome of the elections in the state as to who will form the next government.
Politicians from all the different coalitions are already throwing punches below the belt at each other oblivious to the sufferings of the ordinary Sabahans.
It is ironical that the avowed intention of the “self proclaimed’ whistleblower to seek justice has been used to perpetrate an injustice which is incapable of remedy.
