Jeanie Buss has added an unexpected Lakers connection to Spencer Pratt’s campaign for Los Angeles mayor.
The donation drew attention because Pratt’s run is no longer being treated as a celebrity sideshow. He has turned anger over Los Angeles leadership into a real campaign against incumbent Karen Bass.
That made Buss’ support more notable. It was not framed as a major political endorsement, but it still put one of LA’s most recognizable sports figures next to one of the city’s strangest election stories.

Jeanie Buss backs Spencer Pratt’s mayoral push
As Joy of Everything on Instagram noted, Jeanie Buss has a long personal connection to Spencer Pratt and contributed to his campaign as the race against Karen Bass heats up.
“Jeanie Buss tells us she’s known Spencer Pratt since he was a little kid because his dad was her dentist, and confirms she donated to Spencer’s campaign as his mayoral race against Karen Bass heats up,” it was revealed.
That relationship explains why the donation should not be read only as a political statement. Buss has known Pratt through his family for years, and her support appears tied to that personal history.
Still, the number matters. Buss reportedly donated $1,800, the maximum individual contribution allowed for the June primary.
That gives the gesture more visibility. Even if it was rooted in family loyalty, it still placed Buss on Pratt’s donor list at a time when his campaign is drawing national attention.
Spencer Pratt mayor campaign is becoming harder to ignore
Pratt’s mayoral bid has gained traction because he has positioned himself as an angry Los Angeles resident after losing his Pacific Palisades home in the 2025 wildfire.
His campaign has focused on wildfire recovery, homelessness, city accountability, and public safety. Those issues have helped him turn online attention into fundraising momentum.
Recent reporting has put Pratt among the major names in the race, alongside Bass and Nithya Raman. That is why Buss’ donation landed at a meaningful time.
Pratt is still an unconventional candidate. His reality television background makes him easy to dismiss for critics who see the campaign as pure spectacle.
But the race has changed enough that major LA figures are being asked about him seriously. Buss’ answer showed she sees him through a personal lens first.
That does not mean she has laid out a political case for him. It does show that Pratt’s campaign has reached a level where even a Lakers power broker’s donation becomes part of the mayoral conversation.
