A school bus driver in Malaysia decided to end his service after being insulted by one of his passengers, a female student who had sent him a derogatory message. The incident, which reportedly took place in October 2023, resurfaced online after the driver’s son expressed his frustration and disappointment over the disrespect shown toward his father.

The son shared that his father, who had been ferrying students for years, was deeply hurt when he received a message from the student calling him an offensive name. The student had reportedly sent a text reading, “Hi uncle pig. Do you eat pork?”—a message that not only ridiculed the elderly driver but also touched on sensitive cultural and religious undertones.

Shocked by the insult, the driver immediately terminated the student’s transportation service. When the driver’s son later went to the student’s house to discuss the matter, she refused to come out and face him. The family decided not to resume the service for the student, marking the end of a professional relationship built over years.

The student’s father later reached out to apologize for his daughter’s behavior and pleaded with the driver to reconsider, but the driver declined, expressing concern that continuing the service could lead to further issues. He maintained that respect was fundamental, and such conduct could not be overlooked, even after an apology.

The case reignited public debate on declining manners among schoolchildren and the growing influence of digital culture on young minds. Many observers argued that children today often mimic the language and attitudes they encounter online, particularly from influencers and gaming communities.

Netizens lamented that parents appeared less involved in instilling discipline and courtesy in their children, allowing disrespectful behavior to become normalized. Others suggested that schools should play a stronger role in teaching emotional intelligence and digital etiquette alongside academics.

The incident also highlighted the emotional toll that verbal abuse and mockery can have on service workers, many of whom build lasting bonds with the students they transport daily. For the affected driver and his family, the event was not just about an insult but about upholding dignity and drawing boundaries in a time when social respect seems increasingly eroded.

While the student’s family may have sought forgiveness, the message remains clear: words carry weight, and respect is still the foundation of human decency—both offline and online.
