Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for mosques to be spaces that promote harmony rather than fuel discord. Speaking at the inauguration of the newly built Masjid Jamek Prai, he emphasized that places of worship should not be used to spread hostility or breed suspicion among communities.

“This should not be allowed to continue. Islam teaches us to respect relationships between Muslims and non-Muslims,Anwar said in his address.

He stressed that national progress hinges on maintaining peace among all citizens. While acknowledging that differences in opinion are inevitable, he encouraged addressing them through respectful dialogue instead of resorting to insults.

During the event, Anwar announced a RM100,000 donation for the mosque. He suggested that the funds be utilized to establish a center for religious education and activities, particularly for the benefit of children in the community.

Beyond financial support, he urged Muslims to continue developing mosques as vibrant centers of learning and community engagement. “Mosques can be centres of knowledge, particularly in the Quran, and community development,” he added.

Anwar highlighted that mosque revitalization goes beyond structural upkeep. It should involve fostering intellectual and spiritual growth through study sessions, lectures, and initiatives that promote unity and human capital development.

Encouraging a holistic approach to education, he advocated for integrating religious learning with modern skills. “Tahfiz students should not stop at memorizing the Quran. They should pursue further education, including TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) programs, which can open doors to careers in various fields, even as pilots,” he noted.

He also pointed out the importance of equipping the younger generation with relevant knowledge to keep up with global advancements. “There’s no use in talking about artificial intelligence if we are not actively mastering it,” he said, stressing the need for Malaysians to embrace technological progress while staying rooted in their values.

Anwar’s speech underscored his vision of mosques as inclusive institutions that not only nurture faith but also empower communities with education and unity.
