What temperature is too hot to walk a dog? Here’s what you need to know

Extreme heat is baking Europe and the United States this summer, and it’s not only a threat to humans.

The RSPCA has warned dog owners against walking their pets during the heat, labelling it a "silent killer" and advising "if in doubt, don't go out", especially in unshaded areas.

The charity also reminded owners of the extreme danger of leaving dogs in hot cars, where temperatures can quickly become fatal, even on moderately warm days.

The Blue Cross urged cat owners to be cautious with open windows during the heatwave, recommending keeping cats indoors during peak heat with secure, netted windows after a kitten suffered a fall.

Both animal charities are highlighting critical safety measures for pet owners to protect their animals from the severe risks posed by the impending extreme heat.
