Marvel is planning to make a big comeback with Avengers: Doomsday, its Phase 6 movie slated for a 2026 release and featuring an extensive cast.
Bringing back Robert Downey Jr and some other OG Avengers, this MCU movie is looking forward to put the franchise back on track after the many dips it saw post Avengers: Endgame (2019). Announced in July 2024 and directed by the Russo Brothers, the film will feature Dr Victor Von Doom aka Dr Doom (played by Downey Jr) as the main villain.

According to reports, the budget of Avengers: Doomsday is three times that of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), which was a net USD 330.1 million. What could be the potential plot of Avengers: Doomsday?
The plot for Avengers: Doomsday has been kept under wraps. There isn’t much information about how the MCU plans to characterise Dr Doom, given that, canonically, he has always been a Fantastic Four villain and never been a threat big enough to call for the Avengers.
However, according to Screen Rant, the one possible Marvel comic that could potentially set up the events of Avengers: Doomsday is Emperor Doom, aka Marvel Graphics Novel #27 (1987), by David Michelinie, Bob Hall, and Bill Oakley.
In the events of this comic, Doom gathers enough power to manipulate the world at his whim, wanting to make it a utopia by eliminating crime and other perils. This echoes some of Thanos’ motivations.
Additionally, another comic book series that could serve as the inspiration for the plot of Avengers: Doomsday would be The Infamous Iron Man by Brian Michael Bendis, Alex Maleev, and Stefano Caselli. In this story, Dr Doom assumes the role of Iron Man in the Marvel Universe.
With Robert Downey Jr, who has portrayed Iron Man, playing the role of Dr Doom, this theory seems likely as well.
