What we know after British man goes missing in Italy’s Lake Como

• A 37-year-old British man is missing after diving into Italy's Lake Como to rescue a father and his teenage son who were struggling in the water.
• The incident occurred at around 1.30pm on Monday when a 45-year-old man and his 16-year-old son got into difficulty while swimming roughly 600 metres from the shore near San Siro.
• The father and son were rescued by a passing boat and treated for early signs of hypothermia, while the boy's mother raised the alarm from their chartered vessel.
• An extensive search operation involving specialist divers, rescue boats, helicopters and remotely operated vehicles is currently underway.
• Italian police have launched an investigation into how the incident occurred, including conducting checks at the rental agency where the boat was hired.
