  • Resident doctors in England are to undertake a six-day strike next month amid an ongoing dispute over jobs and pay.
  • The industrial action, announced by the British Medical Association (BMA), will begin at 7am on 7 April and conclude at 6.59am on 13 April.
  • BMA Resident Doctors Committee chairman Jack Fletcher stated that negotiations failed after the government shifted goalposts, proposing pay increases spread over three years.
  • The BMA expressed frustration that despite making good progress, the government's revised offer and a 3.5 per cent uplift recommendation from the pay review body were insufficient.
  • The union's primary aim throughout the dispute is pay restoration, and they will not accept a deal that does not substantially move towards this goal.
