Vice versa, now that Pakatan is governing, for the sake of political stability in the country, PN should work together with the unity government to rebuild the country.
Instead of talking about overturning the government of the day or creating all sorts of hatred against the present government.
In Oct 2020, the then MP for Muar, Syed Saddiq proposed to PM8 a "confidence-and-supply" arrangement whereby Pakatan and lawmakers aligned to them agrees to support the government on motions of confidence or supply (budget) bills.
Syed Saddiq's condition for such an arrangement was that no general elections should be held until the Covid-19 situation stabilises in a year or two, with the opposition still playing their role and all MPs should be given equal constituency allocations and bipartisan committees be appointed to scrutinize and to pass important bills.
In fact on Aug 18 and Oct 22, 2020 the DAP organising secretary had mooted a "ceasefire" and called on PM8 to explore bipartisanship.
At the time, PM8’s hold on the government apparently was tenuous and was facing pressures from everywhere and he was supposed to table Budget 2021 on Nov 6, 2020 with voting beginning on Nov 17, 2020.
Unfortunately, as events showed, PM8 did not accept the olive branch of a confidence of supply bill offered by pakatan but instead he proceeded and obtained consent from the YDP Agong for an emergency declaration in January 2021 in which case parliament was suspended for a stipulated period of time and that elections would not be held during the emergency, which could last until Aug. 1, 2020.
PM8 finally resigned in Aug 2021, after losing majority support in parliament.
His successor, PM9 signed a confidence and supply agreement (CSA) with the main opposition Pakatan Harapan bloc led by Anwar Ibrahim on 13 Sept 2021, almost a month after he assumed office as the 9th PM.
Officially titled "Memorandum of Understanding for Transformation and Political Stability", the deal is to allow the government led by PM9 to have sharper focus to fight the Covid-19 pandemic and economic malaise.
In the Westminster system, a confidence-and-supply agreement is one whereby a party or lawmakers agrees to support the government on motions of confidence or supply (budget) bills, as opposed to a coalition arrangement where all member MPs are expected to vote in favour of the government on every bill.
If Pakatan can put aside all differences to sign a confidence agreement for the sake of the country, why don’t and why can’t the PN coalition reciprocate the same for the sake of the country and its people presently instead of constantly talking about unseating the unity government?
The country needs to unite and PN needs to bury the hatchet.
Leaders in PN should put aside their differences and work as one to overcome the greatest challenge that the country is facing, and to put King, country and the people first before all other issues.
Yes, PN may not agree on many things with Pakatan most of the time, but at this moment, they, like every peace loving Malaysians can agree on one thing – all of us love our country.
May Allah give them all the wisdom and guidance to choose the right and correct path for the benefit of the country.
It is not too late for PN to heed the Agong’s call for a unity government and political stability.
Do not hold the country to ransom because of your selfishness and greed.
