The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has summoned the Kwong Wah Yit Poh newspaper following the posting of an incomplete picture of the Jalur Gemilang on their Facebook page.

According to a report by BERNAMA, MCMC announced that an investigation was being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588) over the incomplete image that was uploaded, featuring a Jalur Gemilang without a crescent moon.

“The Commission views this matter seriously and will fully cooperate with the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further investigations, if necessary,” they explained.

Do not show the Jalur Gemilang in an incomplete manner

MCMC also issued a strict warning to all parties, including media practitioners and the public, to not upload or disseminate content that could be considered mocking or showing the Jalur Gemilang in an incomplete state.

“Stern action may be taken against any party that violates these regulations. MCMC is committed to ensuring that the use of digital media remains orderly and with respect to national symbols,” they added.

Prior to this, Kwong Wah Yit Poh had published an incomplete Jalur Gemilang illustration, after Sin Chew Daily was also accused of doing the same thing while covering the Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Malaysia.
