PETALING JAYA: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s senior private secretary Nazim Alim says his experience delivering aid to houses flying white flags during the height of the movement control order was one of the most memorable in his five years of service with the King.
“His Majesty told me to go out and count how many houses were flying white flags in the city.
“I asked the Kuala Lumpur police chief to work with me; we were told to deliver the necessary assistance from His Majesty’s own funds once we had the numbers,” Bernama reported him as saying.
According to Nazim, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah could not bear to see his subjects in distress, especially during the Covid-19 lockdown when people were getting desperate for provisions.

He praised Sultan Abdullah’s sincerity and determination, especially when the King waded through floodwaters to assist the people.
“His Majesty is a very kind and good-hearted human being. Until today, His Majesty has not taken a single sen in salary as the reigning King. Neither has the Queen, Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah,” said Nazim, who started his career as a speechwriter at Istana Negara.
