White House hits back after legendary rocker mocks Trump’s ‘stupid’ idea to rename Gulf

  • Rocker John Mellencamp paused his concert in Holmdel, New Jersey, to mock a political figure's idea of renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
  • During his performance of Pink Houses, Mellencamp sarcastically questioned the proposed name change, calling it “a stupid f***ing idea.”
  • White House spokesperson Davis Ingle responded to Mellencamp's comments, stating that “Nobody in their right mind cares what out-of-touch, woke Hollywood celebrities have to say.”
  • Trump signed an executive order to rename the gulf on his first day in office in January 2025, and later admitted that he initially wanted to rename the gulf after himself.
  • Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has dismissed the renaming effort, asserting that the political figure can name the U.S. portion of the water as he chooses, while the Gulf of Mexico has held its name since the 17th century.
