Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei held a constructive White House meeting, marking a shift from a prior dispute over military AI use and court challenges.
WASHINGTON: The White House hosted a “productive and constructive” introductory meeting with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on Friday.
A White House spokesperson said discussions covered collaboration opportunities and shared protocols for managing the challenges of scaling AI technology.
The rhetoric marks a departure from earlier tensions when President Donald Trump ordered the government to cease using Anthropic’s technology.
That order followed the company’s refusal to grant the Pentagon unconditional use of its Claude AI models for military purposes.
Anthropic has since challenged that administration order in court.
The company is also contesting a move by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to designate it as a “supply chain risk.”
It is the first US company to receive such a public designation, a label typically reserved for foreign adversary firms.
Both legal cases remain ongoing in US courts.
An Anthropic spokesperson said the White House meeting focused on shared priorities like cybersecurity and AI safety.
“The meeting reflected Anthropic’s ongoing commitment to engaging with the US government on the development of responsible AI,” the spokesperson added.
Earlier this month, Anthropic announced its newest AI model, Mythos, but withheld it from public release due to potential cybersecurity risks.
As a precaution, it shared a version with cybersecurity firms and tech giants in a project dubbed “Glasswing.”
Anthropic said it has had discussions with the US government about Mythos despite a February White House decree to terminate all contracts with the startup.
