The controversy surrounding Folarin Balogun’s lifted World Cup suspension continues to grow.

Mauricio Pochettino will now have his star striker available for selection in Seattle as the United States take on Belgium in Seattle on Monday.

Balogun’s red card from the previous round has now been rescinded by FIFA, with Gianni Infantino coming under serious heat over the decision.

President Donald Trump thanked FIFA for their decision to make Balogun eligible again for the game against Rudi Garcia’s Belgium.

However, the decision has not gone down well outside of the United States, as Infantino has received considerable backlash in the hours since the announcement.

As images surface of who was sat next to Infantino for the USMNT game against Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is likely the tension surrounding the decision will only intensify.

White House lobbyist spotted sitting next to Gianni Infantino during US World Cup game

Balogun was shown a red card against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was undoubtedly controversial in itself.

It has now been shared that White House lobbyist Howard Lutnick was sitting next to Infantino during that game in Santa Clara.

The pair could be seen smiling together from the stands at Levi’s Stadium as they looked down on the match being played.

Lutnick and Trump put together elite lawyers to challenge Balogun’s suspension, which ultimately turned out successful for Pochettino.

Balogun has scored three goals in his three appearances at this summer’s World Cup.

Naturally, Belgium have been left furious with Balogun’s suspension being lifted, with this image only set to see more questions land at FIFA’s door.

It is certainly an unprecedented situation that has unfolded.
