Former Minister of Health, Khairy Jamaluddin has uploaded a video that has attracted the attention of social media users on his Instagram (IG) account.

Khairy, also known by his nickname KJ, questioned in the post whether Umno President Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi or himself was the one who had allegedly spoken on the phone with PH President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In April 2021, Zahid denied that there was a conversation between him and Anwar Ibrahim as was viral.

According to Zahid, the audio recording of the alleged conversation between him and Anwar is disgusting political rationing.

However, in July last year, Zahid finally admitted that the voice in the phone recording that went viral with Anwar earlier was his voice.

Anwar Ibrahim, the head of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, and Zahid Hamidi, the leader of Malaysia's formerly dominant party, the United Malays National Organization (UMNO), are alleged to have had the chat.

Zahid's address at the recent UMNO Annual General Meeting, in which he rejected any forms of cooperation with major parties by declaring "no Bersatu, no Anwar, and no DAP," was welcomed by Anwar during the call.

The UMNO leader responded by assuring Anwar, "Don't worry, that is simply tactical, okay," before praising the opposition leader as his mentor.

Zahid is dealing with his own issues and political calculations. Several counts of corruption, money laundering, and criminal breach of trust are currently being brought against him. It is expected that he will need to enter a defence since the prosecution in the first case has concluded.

Although immediate incarceration would not always follow a serious conviction, it would result in Zahid losing his parliamentary seat and party presidency, along with the influence that comes with it.

The party leader has an interest in hastening the election process so that UMNO may negotiate a dominating position in the next coalition government.

The truth is that there's a chance UMNO and PH might form some sort of partnership. The likelihood of a close race in the general election is already predicted by them, especially if it involves Muhyiddin's Perikatan Nasional, PH, and UMNO and its few surviving supporters.
