Raising a child is, no doubt, a huge commitment for parents but the efforts started way before the infant is born. For instance, the husband has to bear the duty of caring for the wife when she’s pregnant. A Malaysian man did his best to be there for his wife who had recently given birth, but at the cost of his job.

Just last week, a Malaysian, (Danny) not his real name shared a heartbreaking experience via his TikTok account and revealed that he was fired by his supervisor just because he was there with his wife when she gave birth at the hospital. The man texted his supervisor by asking for a week of paternity leave, only to be rejected eventually.

“I thought you said your wife isn’t giving birth until 25th May? Why is it so early?” the supervisor questioned his employee.

The man told his supervisor that his wife had to give birth ahead of schedule, which was something unexpected, but his tasks at hand became an immediate concern. He convinced his employer that he had to be away to take care of his wife.

“Who’s gonna do your job if you’re away? Me? In that case, you can just quit.”

He then asked Danny to provide evidence as proof that his wife had just given birth, to which Danny sent him an image of the labour ward. However, that did not satisfy the supervisor.

“You’re such a trouble. Just quit and don’t come. I don’t need you anymore,” the supervisor said.

Danny then begged him not to do so and when his supervisor did not respond, he reached out to him again the next day, to which the employer insisted on his decision.

“I don’t want you anymore. I’ll pay you on the 7th. Your position has been filled by someone else!”

Danny tried to bargain with his supervisor but to no avail because he was blocked on WhatsApp. His post circulated on social media with many Malaysians urging him to report the matter to the labour department, and he did.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Danny said that he has yet to land himself a new job as he is not only occupied with the matter but also with his newborn.

“My newborn is diagnosed with jaundice, and I’m in contact with the labour department.”

It’s truly a tough time for Danny, and he definitely has a lot on his plate right now. We wish nothing but the best for Danny in his future career and family! If you happen to find yourself in a similar situation in the future, do exercise your right and bring up the matter to the relevant department.
