Among its many other culinary offerings, Ipoh is also known for its taufufa. Many people believe that water sourced from Ipoh is “fresher” and “cleaner” compared to elsewhere. Hence, Ipoh taufufa is likewise a tasty treat without compare.

However, not everyone can make the long journey to Ipoh, especially folks in the Klang Valley. Worry not, though, as now there’s one way you can enjoy authentic Ipoh taufufa. Just head on over to Seapark instead to check out a restaurant there.

Jom Rock in Seapark

Does the name Jom Rock ring a bell? The name is likely familiar to Ipoh transplants living in KL. Back in Ipoh, Let’s Rock is a popular restaurant in Kampung Jawa, famous for its yong tau foo. Jom Rock is its younger sibling, run by the Soo family behind Let’s Rock.

Like its Ipoh counterpart, Jom Rock is a go-to place if you love all things yong tau foo. There is also another reason you should visit this restaurant. It is a reason that has to do with the taufufa sold here.

Every day, without fail, the restaurant brings in fresh taufufa all the way from Ipoh. This way, customers can enjoy the soy dessert the way Ipoh folks do. Instead of syrup, you can actually flavour the dessert with the restaurant’s soy milk, also from Ipoh.

What you will have in your bowl is a smooth, sweet dessert that goes down the throat easily. It is a perfect complement to any heavy meal. That said, the taufufa has rather subtle flavours, so whether you love it depends on personal preference.

The premium version is a fancy take on taufufa, with toppings and all. The layer of sugar atop is caramelised, giving the taufufa a slight sweet crisp. It is quite worth forking out a little more to indulge in this guilty pleasure.

That said, this is a yong tau foo restaurant and it only makes sense to try out some of their offerings. Of these, the Handmade Fishball is probably the best. It is made fresh daily from a well-blended fish paste.

Another highlight is the Ipoh Mountain Water Taufu, which has a perfect texture. As you bite into it, you can feel the beancurd melt away in your mouth. With the addition of fish paste, this tofu is food of the gods.

Other yong tau foo items include the usual Okra, Eggplant and Bittergourd. The Eggplant is likely the most addictive of the bunch, with its creamy flesh and crispy skin. There’s also the Fuchok, which packs a crunch with every bite.

Jom Rock also has Chee Cheong Fun on its menu, a carb option which goes well with yong tau foo. Like in Ipoh, the noodles are served in a sweet red sauce. It is certainly different from the usual curry or soy sauce version folks in KL are used to.

An eggy custard

If you don’t feel like having taufufa for dessert, the Ipoh Egg Custard is also worth a try. Smooth and bouncy, the dessert comes off as sweet, creamy, and vanilla-like. You can tell high-quality eggs were used, with the subtle eggy taste in the background.

Overall, if you are hankering for Ipoh yong tau foo or taufufa, Jom Rock is a place to get your fix. Having the authentic stuff on the menu does wonders for this restaurant and you will likely be back for more after your first visit.
