A major protest rally is being planned by the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) against the upcoming visit of former United States president Donald Trump, who is expected to arrive in Malaysia later this month to attend the ASEAN Summit.
PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man announced the plan during a parliamentary debate on the 2026 Budget, declaring that the party would mobilize supporters nationwide to voice opposition to Trump’s visit. He described the move as a public demonstration against what he viewed as Washington’s continued complicity in global injustices, particularly in relation to the ongoing violence in Gaza.
Tuan Ibrahim, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Kubang Kerian, stated that the protest would serve as a message of solidarity with the oppressed and a rejection of policies that have contributed to instability and bloodshed. He remarked that Trump’s anticipated arrival was seen by many Malaysians as offensive, given his administration’s previous stance on Middle East conflicts and unwavering support for Israel.
The demonstration, which PAS intends to hold during Trump’s visit, is expected to coincide with the ASEAN Summit scheduled for October 26 to 28 in Kuala Lumpur. The gathering is likely to attract widespread attention, as the summit will bring together regional leaders to discuss political, economic, and security cooperation across Southeast Asia.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan earlier confirmed that Trump is expected to arrive on October 26. His visit reportedly includes attending a signing ceremony for a ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, marking a diplomatic milestone in regional peace efforts.
Despite the official purpose of the trip, Trump’s presence has stirred political and public unease within Malaysia. Allowing President Trump's visit may risk sending the wrong signal at a time when Muslim-majority nations are increasingly vocal about Western nations’ perceived double standards in addressing humanitarian crises.
