Finding out that a government application can do far more than you ever expected can make you wonder how you somehow missed it all this time.

That was exactly what happened to one Malaysian after he stumbled upon the MyGov app, which brings a wide range of government services together in one platform.

Taking to Threads, user @zulhafidzyahaya expressed surprise after discovering the MyGov application, which brings a wide range of government services together on one platform.

“There’s actually an app like this made by the Malaysian government? MyGov Apps. Why isn’t the government heavily promoting apps like this? Fahmi what are you doing?  The promotion for this app is way too low,” he wrote on his post.

You can compare grocery prices at nearby stores

One of the features that immediately caught his attention was MyGov’s price-checking function, which allows users to compare the prices of everyday items at nearby supermarkets and hypermarkets.

The feature displays official price information monitored by enforcement officers, allowing users to check the prices of specific products at stores within a 10km radius.

Rather than simply taking the app’s word for it, the user decided to test the prices himself. He checked the prices listed on MyGov against those at physical retail outlets and found that they matched.

For example, the app showed standard chicken prices ranging from RM7.99 to RM10 at various hypermarkets, including Mydin, Econsave and Lotus’s.

“It’s completely identical to what’s in the apps,” the user shared when recounting his experience checking prices at physical retail locations.

Then he realised it can check summons and Unclaimed Money too

Curious to explore further, the user dug deeper into the application’s interface and discovered that the app also brings other government services together in one place.

“You can check for Unclaimed Money (WTD) right here too. Even traffic summonses as well,” he pointed out.

The MyGov dashboard also categorises various public services, covering areas such as birth registration, education, healthcare and housing.

Fahmi Fadzli responds to his question

The post eventually caught the attention of Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzli, who responded to the user’s question about why the app was not being promoted more widely.

“For your information, the KPDN PriceCatcher app is actually promoted frequently… And the MyGov app falls under the management of Gobind Singh Deo (Digital Minister). Insya-Allah they will step up the promotions,” Fahmi responded.

He also said that efforts are already underway to raise awareness of the application and promote it to the public.

If you’re curious to check your summons, compare grocery prices, or explore the other services available, the MyGov app is available for download on both the Google Play and Apple App Store.
