Why London is bidding to host the WorldPride festival in 2032

  • London has officially launched its bid to host WorldPride in 2032, the world's largest international LGBTQ+ festival, with the announcement made during the current WorldPride event in Amsterdam.
  • The bid is strategically timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of London's first official Pride march in 1972, which was a direct response to New York's Stonewall riots.
  • To involve the community, the bid includes a global photography campaign inviting LGBTQ+ individuals to submit images celebrating identity, allyship, and belonging, which will be transformed into a large living mosaic.
  • A design competition has also been launched, calling for UK creatives to submit an original logo for London's WorldPride 2032 bid, with the winning design to be unveiled in October and awarded a £3,000 prize.
  • The Independent and The Standard are serving as official news media partners for the bid, contributing archival photography to illustrate London's LGBTQ+ history, with Pride in London, Outernet, and UK Black Pride co-leading the initiative, supported by the Mayor of London and TripAdvisor.
