GEORGE TOWN – DAP has stepped up pressure on PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang over his allegedly defamatory remarks that non-Muslims are among the root causes of corruption in the country.
After its leaders lodged a police report against Hadi in Penang yesterday, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng took to social media, asking the authorities when they will act against Hadi, who is also Malaysia’s special envoy to the Middle East.
“When will the police act against the special envoy to the Middle East with ministerial status Hadi for his baseless, divisive, racist and extremist branding of non-Muslims and non-bumis as roots for corruption in Malaysia?” said Lim in a tweet.
“Besides that, not just cabinet but no single minister, including the prime minister, has upheld Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family) by repudiating Hadi for his baseless, divisive, racist and extremist branding of non-Muslims and non-bumis.
“The non-bumi and non-Muslim cabinet members have disappointed many with their deafening silence,” said Lim, who is former Penang chief minister and current Bagan MP.
By not getting the cabinet to take the correct, principled stand against Hadi’s alleged hate speech, Lim added, the ministers from MCA, MIC, GPS, and GRS are condoning, emboldening, and legitimatising his hostility and hatred against non-bumis and non-Muslims.
To date, Hadi has remained unrepentant, and he poses a clear and present danger to national unity and integration between the peninsula with Sabah and Sarawak, he added.
Lim took PAS to task, saying it has gone further now by wanting to ban concerts, and the Oktoberfest and Bon Odori festivals.
In a recent Facebook post, Hadi had said that action must be taken against those who are the cause of corruption by pursuing illegal wealth.
“It is among them, who control the country’s economy and use it to destroy politics, the administration and the judiciary,” he had said.
“In fact, they are also the biggest group damaging the country’s politics and economy, the majority of them being non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras,” Hadi added. – The Vibes, August 28, 2022
