- The Earl personally telephoned tabloid newspaper editors to request they refrain from attending his sister’s service at Westminster Abbey.
- The memoir, titled Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, also alleges that King Charles sounded "giddily elated" after Diana died and said she would soon be forgotten; Buckingham Palace has said that the pain of grief can cloud reason and memory.
- Piers Morgan responded on social media by accusing Earl Spencer of hypocrisy for criticising the press while treating the King malignantly during his cancer treatment.
- Morgan has also threatened to take legal action against the Earl over the claims.
