Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stated that Malays and youths should not be blamed for succumbing to racial and religious sentiments during the recent state polls in Malaysia. According to Anwar, a rise in support for right-wing ideologies is not unusual, as it is a global phenomenon.

He cited Western countries such as Europe and the US as examples, where there has been an increase in fascism and the Christian right, respectively. Anwar asserts that it is unfair to blame and punish youths who may have been misled by political parties. He believes that leaders in the unity government should address this issue by establishing closer connections with Malaysians and through the exercise of wisdom and confidence. Anwar emphasized the importance of sincerity and an anti-corruption stance in carrying out duties effectively.

The Prime Minister also recognizes that it may take time for Malay voters to embrace the unity government’s Madani concept fully. He believes that it is the responsibility of the government's machinery and leadership to work harder to realize the goals of the Madani policy. The Madani policy encompasses six core values: Sustainability, Prosperity, Innovation, Respect, Trust, and Compassion.

Additionally, Umno's Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamad recently stated that Malay youths lack the basic knowledge required to understand politics and current issues. He suggested that Umno should undergo rebranding to become a more practical, realistic, and inclusive party. Anwar did not seem affected by Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's call for his resignation due to the unity government's performance in the state polls.

Anwar pointed out that their victory was maintained, and they still held two-thirds of the seats in Parliament. Despite the success of Perikatan in the state polls, winning a majority of seats in Terengganu, Kelantan, and Kedah, Pakatan and Barisan Nasional managed to secure significant victories in Penang, Selangor, and Negri Sembilan.

The outcome of these elections highlights the complex political landscape in Malaysia, with different parties finding success in different regions of the country. In conclusion, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim believes that blaming and punishing Malays and youths for being influenced by racial and religious sentiments is unjustified.

He argues that this rise in support for right-wing ideologies is a global phenomenon and can be observed in Western countries as well. Anwar emphasizes the need for closer connections between leaders and Malaysians, sincerity in carrying out duties, and time to fully implement the Madani policy.
