Effective 1st July 2026, Malaysians can make unlimited ATM cash withdrawals for free at over 14,000 machines nationwide as the banks are waiving the RM1 MEPS interbank withdrawal fee.
However, some have reported being charged the RM1 fee for ATM cash withdrawals after 1st July. For those who are unaware, not all ATMs in Malaysia are the same.
Here’s everything you need to know.
RM1 waiver is only for Bank-operated ATMs

The RM1 waiver announcement was made the Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM), Association of Islamic Banking and Financial Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM), and Association of Development Finance Institutions of Malaysia (ADFIM), which represents the financial and banking industry of Malaysia.
Undertaken with Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the RM1 waiver is applicable at over 14,000 ATMs nationwide that are operated by the banks. This includes ATMs operated by both local and foreign banks.
According to the industry, the fee waiver reflects their commitment in providing accessible, inclusive and affordable financial services, while acknowledging that cash remains an important means of payment for Malaysians.
This means if you’re a Maybank card holder, you can enjoy the RM1 waiver if you withdraw cash at a CIMB, RHB or AmBank operated machines.
Similarly, a CIMB card holder can also withdrawal cash without the MEPS fee at Alliance Bank, HSBC, HongLeong Bank and Public Bank operated ATMs.
Just make sure you’re making a withdrawal at a Bank-operated ATM.
Take note of Non-Bank operated ATMs

In case you didn’t know, there are other non-Bank ATMs around the country. While these machines may display MEPS and bank logos, they are not part of the RM1 fee waiver initiative announced by ABM, AIBIM and ADFIM.
These third-party non-Bank or white label ATMs include Euronet, Safeguards and Reachful. You can find them commonly located at convenience stores, petrol stations, supermarkets and tourist hotspots.

We checked out an Euronet ATM at a 7-Eleven this morning and it did highlight prominently on the screen that RM1 MEPS ATM fee is still applicable.
So if you plan to withdraw cash without extra fees, make sure it is a bank operated ATM. Usually these machines are branded clearly with a single bank logo along with the MEPS logo.
