Why the first ever foldable iPhone is facing severe delays

  • Apple's long-awaited folding iPhone, rumoured to be called the iPhone Ultra, is facing severe delays, according to an industry report, with customers potentially not receiving it until 2027 despite an expected September unveiling.
  • The device is anticipated to feature a 5.5-inch outside display and a 7.8-inch display when fully extended.
  • It is expected to be the most expensive iPhone on the market, with a high price tag of between $2,300 and $2,500 (£1,700-£1,870).
  • Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s report suggests a lack of inventory means there will be a delay between Apple announcing the new phone and releasing it.
  • He said: “This means the foldable iPhone could sell out immediately after pre-orders open, with delivery lead times quickly stretching to four to six weeks or longer and remaining there through December.”
