- The 25-year-old was found guilty on eight charges, including making sexually suggestive gestures at the Statue of Peace, a memorial for Korean women forced into sexual slavery during World War II.
- Prosecutors characterised his actions as 'nuisance streaming', involving provocative stunts in public for online audiences, such as disrupting public transport and an amusement park.
- The court also imposed a five-year ban on him working at institutions involving children, adolescents, and people with disabilities, and he was taken into custody immediately due to being a flight risk.
- Somali had previously gained notoriety in Japan in 2023 for similar disruptive behaviour and had made provocative remarks in South Korea, including wearing a 'Make America Great Again' hat to a court hearing.
