PUBLIC Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon said that the installation of wider drainage inlets along EDSA in Makati City has proven effective in mitigating flooding during heavy downpours.
“This shows that the solution of our engineers worked. It is simple, inexpensive, and quick to implement,” Dizon said, referring to the enlarging of three drainage inlets along EDSA from about 0.5 meters to 1.5 meters.
“Now that we have seen that it works, we will not only do it here on EDSA. We will also do it in flood-prone areas on EDSA and other national roads in Metro Manila,” he added.
Dizon said priority areas include flood-prone portions of EDSA in the vicinity of Camp Aguinaldo, Camp Crame, Santolan, Balintawak, and Quezon Avenue in Quezon City; Tramo; as well as portions of C-5, Commonwealth Avenue, España Boulevard, and Roxas Boulevard in Manila.
He noted that the Department of Public Works and Highways plans to install trash traps in areas where garbage frequently clogs drainage systems like on G. Araneta Avenue, also in Quezon City.
